AO analysis
The inversion suggest a correction of 1.94 ppm, do not adjust. This is
consistent with CARINA and with IO analysis.

Average of all cross-overs is: -3.1 ppm (but strongly influenced by 2 very low
cross-overs of cruises 90AV20041104 and 91AA19971204).
Inversion analysis suggests an insignificant adjustment.
Cross-overs with other core cruises (06AQ19920521, 316N19831007) do not warrant
an adjustment.

The IO inversion suggest a -5 umol/kg adjustment and the mean of the crossovers
is 5.3. CARINA suggest that -4 umol/kg correction.
A careful analysis of the data by van Heuven et al 2011 (DSR-II) suggest an
adjustment of -0.6.
We choose to follow the suggestion of van Heuven, and since this is below the
threshold of 4 umol/kg, we don't apply any adjustment.

There are 3 xovers. The fitted offset is -4.2. The suggested adjustment is -4
All residuals are almost 0 and keep inside +-1.
Very good fit with 2 GLODAP cruises

06AQ19960317 - phosphate
Existing nutrient data (NO3, NO2, PO4, SIL) was replaced late January 2015 with
new data produced by Karel Bakker (RoyalNIOZ, NL). New data are on single
calibration scale for Polarstern Weddell Gyre cruises 06AQ19960317,
06AQ19980328, 06AQ20050122, 06AQ20080210 and 06AQ20101128. I verified data to be
exceptionally compatible between these five cruises, as well as with other
cruises in the Weddell Gyre. Adjustments for these nutriets for these 5 cruises
will therefore be reverted to 1. As a single exception, I believe the SIL data
for 06AQ19980328 to be biased ~1.5% high despite the normalization effort.

Suggested correction is 1.0255. and mean offset is 0.977. Adjust by 1.02. Not
consistent with CARINA (which has more cruises). Use CARINA adjustment of 1.

06AQ19960317 - phosphate
This cruise has more crossovers in the AO, so I await those results before
suggesting an adjustment.
The IO inversion suggest a correction of 1.003 and the mean of the IO crossovers
is 0.99. CARINA suggest a correction of 1.00, and van heuven et al. (2011)
suggest a correction of 1.02. Most crossovers with GLODAP cruises suggest that
an upward adjustment is justified.

06AQ19960317 - phosphate
Average of all cross-overs is: 0.981 (but this value is strongly influenced by
an anomalous low cross-over with cruise 58A119890214).
Inversion analysis suggests an insignificant adjustment (0.983).
Based on this and the good agreement of phosphate of 06AQ19960317 with that of
core cruise 316N19831007 I suggest NO adjustment

06AQ19960317 - nitrate

Suggested correction is 1.0447, mean bias is 0.96 and it looks low. . This is
larger than CARINA (1.02), and GLODAP (just 0.03). Use CARINA adjustment, this
is based on more data.

This cruise has many more crossovers in the AO inversion, so I await that
result. The IO inversion suggest a correction of 1.005 and the mean of the IO
crossovers is 0.98. van Heuven et al. (2011) suggest a correction of 1.035.
CARINA suggest a correction of 1.02.
Most crossovers confirm that this cruise need an upward adjustment.

Average of all cross-overs is: 0.977
Inversion analysis suggests an adjustment of: 1.022
Almost all cruises appear to show that nitrate of 06AQ19960317 be somewhat low.
I suggest an adjustment of nitrate for cruise 06AQ19960317 of 1.02

This cruise has more crossovers in the AO, so I await those results before
suggesting an adjustment.
The IO inversion suggest a correction of 1.003 and the mean of the IO crossovers
is 0.99. CARINA suggest a correction of 1.00, and van heuven et al. (2011)
suggest a correction of 1.02. Most crossovers with GLODAP cruises suggest that
an upward adjustment is justified.

Auto-uploaded comment from GLODAPv2 assessment by Steven van Heuven (src:
GLODAPv2_ATL_for_Carsten.xls / 2015-01-08): : Make 1.05. Original Polarstern
Weddell Sea nutrient data have been re-assessed at by Karel Bakker (nuts chemist
at NIOZ) in August 2014. Results (made consistent between cruises using NIOZ
long-term nutrient standards) for SIL are +5% higher than what we currently have
(likely largely due to data handling errors in the past). The improved datasets
will be submitted to Bob Key (expected Nov2014). Untill then, the data we
already have requires 1.05. This is closely in line with earlier suggestions and
the inversion result.

The AO inversion suggest a correction of 1.0529 and mean offset is 0.941, and
the data certainly look low. I recommend a correction of 1.05. This in perfect
agreement with the CARINA suggested adjustment.

This cruise has more crossovers in the AO so I await the result from that
inversion. However, the IO inversion suggest a correction of 1.04 and the mean
of the IO crossovers is 0.97. CARINA suggest a correction of 1.05 and van Heuven
et al. (2011) suggest a correction of 1.02.
Most crossovers seems to suggest that a significant upward adjustment is needed-

Average of all cross-overs is: 0.952
Inversion analysis suggests an adjustment of: 1.015
However, silicate of cruise 06AQ19960317 appears to be low against almost all
other cruises with which it has cross-overs, including core cruises.
Inversion analysis by Steven van Heuven appears to confirm the cross-over
result.
At the Paris meeting we therefore suggest an adjustment of silicate for
06AQ19960317 of 1.05

Autogenerated CTD salinity and CTD oxygen update
Automated update! This overwrites adjustment values (and flags) of CTDoxy and
CTDsal with the values from BOTsal and BOToxy for every cruise, unless CTDsal
(or CTDoxy) is not present or bad.
Salinity action ID:5; CTD salinity data good, setting CTD salinity offset and QC
flag to bottle values.
Oxygen action ID:3; no CTD oxygen data. Setting CTD oxygen offset to -999, QC
flag removed.

GLODAPv2_ATL_for_Carsten.xls / 2015-01-08): : make 1.025. Although that will fix
deep data, which are of sufficient quality, shallow oxygen data appear 10-15 low
compared to many other Polarstern cruises. Why is that?

The inversion suggest a correction of 1.0224 based on 9 crossovers with a mean
offset of 0.985. Some suggest data are OK, while some suggest data are low.
CARINA suggested 1.01, we do the same. An adjustment of 1.01 is recommended for
these data.

This cruise has more crossovers in the AO, so I await the AO inversion before
making a suggestion. The IO inversion suggest a correction of 0.999 and the mean
of the IO crossovers is 0.989. CARINA suggest a correction of 1.01 and van
Heuven et al. (2011) suggest a correction of 0.995.

06AQ19960317 - oxygen
Average of all cross-overs is: 0.984
Inversion analysis suggests an adjustment of 1.030
The analysis is inconclusive. Many cruises appear to support an adjustment, but
some important ones not. As overall oxygen of cruise 06AQ19960317 appears to be
low (av. 0.984) indeed, I suggest a small adjustment.
Therefore, I suggest an adjustment of oxygen for cruise 06AQ19960317 of 1.02
11 June 2008,
Mario Hoppema
-
UPDATE
A new inversion analysis has been done (13 Oct. 2008), now with data to which
all suggested adjustments from the first round were applied. This new analysis
suggests an adjustment of 0.992
This indicates that the initial adjustment may have been too high. This is
further corroborated by cross-overs in the Indian sector. Note that the
cross-over results for this cruise are somewhat inconclusive indeed (see above).
Therefore I suggest to modify the adjustment of oxygen to 1.01

This is closely in line with earlier suggestions and

threshold of 4 umol/kg, we don't apply any adjustment.

06AQ19960317 - salinity
The IO inversion suggest a correction of 1.2 and the mean of the IO crossovers
is -0.9. CARINA suggest 0 correction.
We suggest that no adjustment is applied.

cruise in both AO and IO
My suggestions based on the the Indian Ocean inversion (and the result from
CARINA). The Atlantic Ocean inversion might have different views.
This cruise was not included in the original GLODAP adjustment scheme.

06AQ19960317 - salinity
Average of all cross-overs is: -3.1 ppm (but strongly influenced by 2 very low
cross-overs of cruises 90AV20041104 and 91AA19971204).
Inversion analysis suggests an insignificant adjustment.
Cross-overs with other core cruises (06AQ19920521, 316N19831007) do not warrant
an adjustment.

tco2
There are 3 xovers. The fitted offset is -4.2. The suggested adjustment is -4
All residuals are almost 0 and keep inside +-1.
Very good fit with 2 GLODAP cruises

All xovers and output of inversions are refered on figure: "Report plot for
adjustments"
Real diff (Green dots) are the differences taken directly from xover routines.
The complete segment of error bar represents the xover standard deviation.
Yellow line stand for the offset calculated for this cruise.
Black stars stand for the offset calculated for the others cruises in the
xovers.
Blue squares stand for the Fitted differences that would be obtained from the
calculated offsets (Yellow line - black stars)
Red dots stand for the Residuals between the 'Real diff'(Green dots) and 'Fitted
diff' (Blue squares)
c suffix in the upper X axis labels stand for Core Cruises
expocode ids in upper X axis stand for NA ids or SO_ids+10000 for avoiding
coincidences

06AQ19960317 - oxygen
Average of all cross-overs is: 0.984
Inversion analysis suggests an adjustment of 1.030
The analysis is inconclusive. Many cruises appear to support an adjustment, but
some important ones not. As overall oxygen of cruise 06AQ19960317 appears to be
low (av. 0.984) indeed, I suggest a small adjustment.
Therefore, I suggest an adjustment of oxygen for cruise 06AQ19960317 of 1.02

06AQ19960317 - silicate
Average of all cross-overs is: 0.952
Inversion analysis suggests an adjustment of: 1.015
However, silicate of cruise 06AQ19960317 appears to be low against almost all
other cruises with which it has cross-overs, including core cruises.
Inversion analysis by Steven van Heuven appears to confirm the cross-over
result.
At the Paris meeting we therefore suggest an adjustment of silicate for
06AQ19960317 of 1.05

06AQ19960317 - phosphate
Average of all cross-overs is: 0.981 (but this value is strongly influenced by
an anomalous low cross-over with cruise 58A119890214).
Inversion analysis suggests an insignificant adjustment (0.983).
Based on this and the good agreement of phosphate of 06AQ19960317 with that of
core cruise 316N19831007 I suggest NO adjustment

06AQ19960317 - nitrate
Average of all cross-overs is: 0.977
Inversion analysis suggests an adjustment of: 1.022
Almost all cruises appear to show that nitrate of 06AQ19960317 be somewhat low.
I suggest an adjustment of nitrate for cruise 06AQ19960317 of 1.02
